Physical Therapy for
Runners

Personalized. Evidence-Based. Results-Driven.

Your Running. Your Goals. Your Plan.

Running means something different to everyone. Some are chasing a PR, others a first finish line, and for others it is a daily ritual that keeps everything else in balance.

Whatever it means to you, when you are hurt, not being able to run is more than just a physical setback.

Miles Ahead Physical Therapy and Performance takes a different approach to runner care. Your physical therapy is informed by your physical therapist's experience as a running coach and strength coach, so you receive runner-specific rehab along with guidance on how to best manage your training throughout the process.

This is not a clinic where you see a different face every visit, follow a generic protocol, and hope for the best. It is a focused, comprehensive, one-on-one experience designed specifically for runners, from the way your evaluation is structured to the follow-up care you receive between appointments. Here is what that actually looks like.

The Signature
Running Assessment

Most physical therapy evaluations start with your injury. Ours starts with you. Before we look at how you move, we want to understand who you are: your training history, your daily rhythms, the stressors you're carrying, and the context surrounding your current situation. This isn't small talk. It's the most important part of the session, and we don't rush it. From there, we move into a comprehensive orthopedic examination paired with a series of functional assessments and physical performance tests designed to give us a complete picture, not just of what hurts, but of what's driving it. For runners, this includes a quantitative and qualitative gait analysis that goes well beyond surface-level observation. By the end of the session you'll leave with a gameplan: exercises mapped out, sets and reps anchored, training modifications suggested, and a clear understanding of exactly what you're doing and why. No guesswork. Every Signature Running Evaluation includes a full chart review and clinical documentation, followed by a detailed recap email delivered within 24 hours, outlining your assessment findings, your program, and the road ahead. From the moment you arrive to the moment that email lands in your inbox, this session represents several hours of focused work on your behalf. That's the commitment we make to every client from day one. Between appointments, you also have direct access to Chris: two emails and one 15-minute call (client initiated) to address anything pressing before your next visit. This is what it looks like when someone actually takes the time to understand your situation before trying to fix it. What's included: -Unhurried intake conversation covering injury history, training background, lifestyle factors, and goals -Comprehensive orthopedic examination -A series of functional movement and physical performance assessments -Quantitative and qualitative running gait analysis -Same-session exercise instruction with individualized sets, reps, and progressions -Full chart review and clinical documentation following your session -Detailed 24-hour follow-up recap email with findings, program, and next steps -Direct access between appointments: client initiated, up to 2 emails and one 15-minute call

Follow-Up Sessions

Every follow-up is a continuation of the same focused, one-on-one care you received on day one, picking up right where you left off. Each session begins with a conversation about how training and rehab has been going, what has felt better, what has not, and what has come up since your last visit. This is not a formality. It shapes everything that happens next. From there, the session is built around what you actually need that day. Hands-on treatment including dry needling, soft tissue work, and joint mobilization is used when it is indicated for symptom management. Every session also includes progression of your exercise program. We work through new movements or progressions together in the gym, with high quality cueing and instruction until you feel confident executing them on your own. Your individualized Google Sheet, housing your full home routine with video links, sets, reps, and notes, is updated after every session so you always know exactly what you are doing between appointments. Before you leave, you will have clear guidance on how to approach both your training and your rehab until your next visit.

Running Gait Analysis

Gait analysis is included in every Signature Running Evaluation — it is not a separate service or an add-on. Using Runeasi sensor technology and multi-angle slow motion video, we capture both the quantitative and qualitative picture of how you run. The Runeasi system generates a Running Quality Score that gives us objective data on your movement patterns, interpreted through the eye of a physical therapist and running coach who has been in the sport for nearly 20 years. You will leave your evaluation with a clear understanding of how your mechanics relate to your injury, your training, and your goals. As your rehab progresses, gait can be revisited during follow-up visits whenever it is relevant to your care.

The Miles Ahead Approach

Every plan is built around you — your injury, your training, your goals. Here is what that looks like in practice. Load-Based Rehab Programming -Stay as active as your body allows while you heal Exercises designed to address your injury and build your capacity for running Every plan is tailored to your specific injury, goals, and needs Hands-On Treatment -Dry needling, soft tissue work, cupping, and joint mobilization used when indicated for symptom management Training Education -Most running injuries are the result of training errors, so understanding your training is part of the rehab process. You will learn how to adjust your training intelligently, not just stop. During rehab, you will receive clear guidance on monitoring pain versus soreness throughout your recovery. Movement and Gait Analysis -Taking a close look at how you run and move is extremely helpful to guide your rehab and programming. -Minor form adjustments are suggested only when they will make a meaningful difference. You'll receive actionable takeaways, not overwhelming data Beyond the Injury -The goal is to return you to running stronger and more resilient than before Many clients choose to continue working with me beyond rehab through running coaching, strength training, or a maintenance physical therapy membership
